James Tamou (born 13 December 1988 in Palmerston North[1]) is a New Zealand rugby league prop who currently plays for the North Queensland Cowboys in the National Rugby League (NRL). He is contracted to the club until the end of the 2013 season.

Playing career

Tamou played for the Sydney Roosters' under 20s team in 2008, before signing for the North Queensland Cowboys from 2009.[2] He made his first-grade debut in the ninth round of the 2009 NRL season. In 2010 he was named the Cowboys' most improved player of the year.[3] Early in the 2011 season, he was banned by his team-mates from one NRL match for "breaking team alcohol rules",[4] but went on to play in 23 NRL matches during the year, including the Cowboys' qualifying final defeat to Manly.[5]

Representative career

Tamou has twice represented the New Zealand Māori, in 2008 and 2010.[6] He played for the Junior Kiwis in 2007. In 2011 he was selected in the New Zealand national team's train-on squad for the Four Nations, although he was not selected in the final squad for the tournament.[7]
